Simples Moss covered Balls

Spring is here (at least it is in my neck of the woods!) 

I needed a couple additions to my spring mantle. 

And I just love moss and moss covered balls. 

What I didn't like was the price!

So of course I decided to make my own!

I started out with these supplies:

• wiffle balls (found this pack at Target)
• glue gun and lots of extra glue sticks
• a sheet of moss (found mine at Hobby Lobby)
• green thread to match the moss

 I cut a huge square out from the moss sheet, about 1/4 of it.

 I started putting hot glue on a small part of the plastic wiffle ball and wrapped the moss around it. 

I continued adding glue and wrapping the moss around the ball until I had covered the whole thing. 

It's a good idea to keep a scissors handy, 

you will need to cut off some of the moss as you wrap it around the ball.

 You may end up with some "holes" but that it easy to fix. By using some scraps, 

I added hot glue where the ball can be seen or where you can see a seam. 

It's easy to press the moss into each other making it naturally mold together.

 When I was finished covering the whole ball with the moss, 

I wrapped some green thread around the whole thing. 

Tucking the beginning part of the thread and the end of the thread under a small piece of scrap moss.

 My new simple moss covered balls are a great addition to the tin containers on my mantle.

All three of these moss balls took me less than 30 minutes, total.

Simple Moss Wreath

I love this sweet and simple moss wreath with a little birds nest, eggs and pussy willow branches.

My new Easter sign has me walking around the house singing 

and reminding me of the old hymn and  "Because He Lives, I can face tomorrow..."

 For my Moss Wreath I used the following supplies: hot glue gun, small grapevine wreath, green Spanish Moss, burlap ribbon (or you could cut burlap into long strips), small birds nest and some eggs.

There really isn't much instruction on how to do this... and I really don't think you could mess it up!

 

I put hot glue all over the front of the grapevine wreath and then added my moss.

 I made a bow and looped a long part of the burlap ribbon around the top of the wreath 

and hung it high. 

I hot glued the birds nest and a couple eggs and then added some pussy willow twigs 

and a couple green flowers (all supplies found at Hobby Lobby).

Spring Moss Letter

A couple year ago I made a moss covered letter for my front door. 

I pulled it out to hang it up and welcome spring, 

but it had gotten really beaten up by being in the sun and rain. 

So I had to freshen it up a bit (basically I had to start all over).

I took off all the old moss and adding new fresh green moss.

 I also swapped out the twine (it was a little ratty too) 

and used this burlap wired ribbon that I found at Hobby Lobby.

I had originally bought this wood painted lady bug at JoAnn's. 

I cut down the pick so it was easy to just slide it into the moss.

I haven't decided if I like it better with or without the ladybug.

Decorating with MOSS

Welcome Spring! 

We've had some beautiful weather the past couple of days.
So naturally it was time to change the look on the front door.
I'd been looking around for a new idea and here is the result:

I started out with a simple wood letter I found at JoAnn's

  And a package of Instant Green 16 x 18 sheet of Moss. 

A hot glue gun in hand...

....the creating began! I loved working with this moss, it was so easy!

Here's how I did it:

 Lay the moss face down and with the letter on top, face down.

 Add hot glue so it sticks to the face of the letter.

Cut about 1/2 inch all the way around the letter.  

And cut at an angle on the corners.

Like this:

 Wrap the moss all the way around the letter.
Hot gluing along the way.

 Add some hardware to top for hanging. 

These are nice because they screw in and I was able to do it by hand without predrilling any holes.

Depending on your letter, you may need only hanger.

 I added a little bird as an accent.

Use a little piece of moss to cover to stick. 

 I used twine like this:

Ribbon would look cute too.

 I added a bow and tied it a little off-set.

 I had some leftover moss...

 ... and a vase that I just wasn't ever using.

So I hot glued various pieces all over the vase. 

And it turned out great!

I was having so much fun with the moss.

I searched through a bin of balls in the garage and covered one of them!

And then another vase, until I ran out of moss. 

Time to make a trip to JoAnn's!
