Chalk Board Armoire

I'm spending a lot of my free time working on redecorating the kids bedroom.
My latest project came per the request of my oldest, Sidney.
She ask me to paint this armoire all in chalk board paint.
The armoire came from a friends garage, to my garage and then we moved it here to NC
Sidney told one of the movers to put it in her room.
I used Valspar's Chalkboard paint
(that I already own from pervious projects. Score-another FREE makeover!)
And a White Zig Marker from the Chalk Collection (from my scrapbook supplies).
Sidney loves taking quotes and verses and posting them around her room.
So the chalk board armoire was a perfect idea for her!
I experimented with some design ideas in chalk.
And then texted some pictures to friends and they casted their votes for their favorite drawer design.
I found this cute contact paper and lined all the drawers. In case you were wondering, I painted the whole armoire (legs, sides, top) all in the chalkboard paint. No priming necessary.
She finds a new phrase or two every other day and sometimes writes all over the armoire!

Coffee Filter Wreath

Fall Wreath made from Natural Coffee Filters!
I was so excited to finally get back to crafting after unpacking all my gear.
And to top it off, my dear friend Kelly came for the weekend and we got craft together!
The key to this wreath are the "natural" coffee filters (Wal-mart).
For this size wreath we used about 100.
I bought mini pumpkins, acorns, pine cones and some "faux" sprigs to embellish the wreath.
All my supplies were purcahsed at Dollar Tree and Walmart.
I forgot to take a picture of the foam wreath before we started.
So for those of you who are visual like me, here it is!
It measures 11" and I bought it at Dollar Tree.
Basically we hot glued the coffee filters all the way around the front of the wreath
(It helped to use the end of a pencil to wrap the filter around and place into the foam.
You don't have to poke it in though-the hot glue adheres nicely to it.
We each added our own variety of fall flavor.
Kelly used the pumpkins and gourds
and I grabbed some extra supplies I had lying around, such as the pears and feathers.
You probably could find some pretty fun and interesting things lying around your yard!
We just hot glued them right to the filters.
The wreath probably will do best on door that's covered by a porch or even somewhere inside!
Happy Fall!

Chair redo via a skirt!

With our recent move, I've decided to makeover each of the kids rooms (imagine picking out fabrics for all three on one shopping trip!) I'm starting off slowly with a couple of things here and there.
As I was unpacking the hanging clothes I stumbled upon a skirt that I bought years ago
after Katelyn was born. Cute. But I'm just not wearing it anymore.
Don't you love the lining?! Yes, Gymboree for Women... not sure if there doing that anymore.
I'm past the Gymboree years.
The chair has seen better days. This is round two from the beginning of it's life (white with the butterflies... it was time for an update (that's Ginger our cocka-poo, she just had to be in the picture!)
I painted the whole chair black and then recovered the seat with the "fabric" from the skirt.
This chair is for Sidney's room and we love how it turned out.
Cost: $0, FREE (had the paint, had the skirt)

I'm BACK!

It's been quite a summer! We had a great time with family and friends at our cottage.
And we finally made it to Charlotte and are now getting settled.

This summer was an unusual one, to say the least...
and I did not do nearly enough crafting & creating!
Here's a summary of our life from the past few months
(most of these pictures are off my phone and edited for Instagram!):
A couple weeks before we moved we had a great get together with our friends.
We had a great time at the party and will cherish our friendships with each of these sweet families!
Only one week after school finished for the summer, our packers and movers arrived.
Tyler had a great time helping out! He thinks he's found his new profession!

We filled this whole truck! And now were unpacking at the other end (ugh!) and purging lots!
All packed up and ready to go...
But not without one last stop to say goodbye to our beloved neighborhood friends.

We were pretty excited when we finally reached our destination (for the summer at least).
One of my first projects was to give the inside of the cottage a little bit more RED flair.
So I painted the door!
On July 3rd I decided to create this American Bunting for the next days festivities!
Me with Author/Speaker/Lake Michigan Lover, Shauna Neiquist
In July I headed to Charlotte to meet up with Ben and hunt for a house.
We bought none of these houses...
Most of our summer revolved around good times with great friends!
And equally as good of a time with our family!
Sidney went nuts with her camera this summer...
and captured our family like you've never seen them before!
Lots of memory making for the five of us.
The last week of summer we had one last hurrah with our besties at the County Fair.
Maxed out and ready to head south!
Spirits were high for the first leg of our trip.

With a quick trip back in Cincy before heading "home!"
Movies, napping, lots of candy eating and very little reading then finally...
We arrived! We had planned to stop on the side of the road and get a picture at the state sign,
but this was on the edge of steep mountains (no very safe for stopping!)
Luckily the vistors center was only a couple miles ahead
where we were able to stretch our legs and get this great picture!
Here's where we've landed! And guess what?!
I'm very close to Hobby Lobby, several Targets and lots and lots of great shopping!
The wheels in my mind are already churning-stay tuned... I've already got several projects in the works!
